How is the cause of a person’s hair loss determined?
Hair loss can be stressful and worrisome, especially when the scalp starts to show in places where it was never visible before. While nobody wants to lose control of their hair and how they look, hair loss is not a problem without a solution. In fact, there are many reasons for a person’s hair loss each with its own suggested course of action.
In some cases, situational stress or illness may cause temporary hair loss, with the follicles returning to normal once the body returns to a calm and healthier state. Certain medications can cause hairs to fall out, so finishing a recommended health treatment may be the answer. In many cases, though, the culprit behind hair loss is heredity. Low iron and low thyroid are also common culprits. Men and women may both find their hair develops generalized thinning or localized patches of hair loss as they age. This is known as androgenetic alopecia, and it has to do with your genetics. If your ancestors lost their hair in a predictable pattern as they aged on either your father’s or mother’s side, it is likely that you will too, to some degree.
As a part of our comprehensive Hair Restoration Center we can help define and diagnosis the reasons for your hair loss, and recommend an individualized approach. This often involves both non-surgical and potentially surgical solutions. For surgical patients who are losing hair due to androgenetic alopecia, our solution is NeoGraft®. Wherever you are with your hair-loss, we are here to join you on your journey of hair restoration.
How does your surgical team partner with you for hair restoration?
NeoGraft® is the surgical pathway of our entire hair restoration program. There are many options we will discuss with you to maintain your current hair including some topicals and medication, light therapy, PRP injections among others. After your initial consultation, when you come in for your actual appointment, you will work with your surgeon to mark and confirm your desired hairline and have the treatment area prepared for the procedure. Then, our experienced technicians will harvest about 15% of your healthy follicles randomly from balding-resistant areas on the back of the scalp which leaves no visible scars. After a break, the transplanting itself will happen later in the day. The entire process involves a great deal of carefully coordinated and detail-oriented work, with each step carefully planned. The overall goal is to create a network of talent and support to get you the most natural-looking hairline and improved fullness and hair density.
